ameroon ... the heartbeat of Africa pulses in this land, a vista that offers vast equatorial forests, rivers with rapids and waterfalls, lunar landscapes in the north, golden savannahs with a huge gallery of wildlife, and miles and miles of palm-fringed beaches. This is also a place of volcanoes, where every now and then they thunder to life and put on one of Nature's most awesome dramas. Here too is one of the remaining strongholds of many endangered primates, including the lowland gorilla, chimpanzee and mandrill, and a range of biological diversity found nowhere else in the world.
In a country scarcely larger than France, ancient cultures preserve their mysteries and live together in harmony. It is a true crossroads of Africa. Its frontiers hold over 130 ethnic groups, each with a distinct language and customs. In the north, the country explodes in a bouquet of color during the Fantasia celebrations. Warriors wearing armor ride amidst clouds of dust on decorated horses. In Oudjilla, you can join in the wild dances of the women as they celebrate the harvest, or ask the crab sorcerer in Kapsiki to read your fortune

In the southern forests live the Pygmy choirs who dance the Buma - while to the west, the festivals of the Bamaleké people feature hats festooned with red plumes and fantastic masks with colorful beadwork. On the tropical beaches at Limbé and Kribi, you can relax and sway to the rhythms of fishermen who draw their wealth from the sea. You enter and leave this fabulous country in Douala, the economic center of the country. Here you will see even more sights.
Visit the neo-Roman style Cathedral, the Palace of King Bell, and the Market and Handicraft Center where you can shop for last-minute souvenirs before the return flight home. Local handicrafts include a large variety of decorated pots, drinking horns, earthenware bowls, mats and rugs, raffia, jewellery and beadwork garments. Cameroon is one of the "forgotten" places that you rarely hear about, unless it's soccer, a national obsession.
