 |
| A well-established 30 year-old
business, today Alken Tours Inc. is a major force in wholesaling travel
to the entire Caribbean, Latin America, the U.K. and Europe. Alken Tours
Africa Division specializes in customized itineraries and escorted group
tours to major African destinations like Senegal, Ghana, Benin, Côte
d'Ivoire, the Gambia, Egypt, Tanzania, Kenya and South Africa - with extensions
to other countries like Zambia and Israel. |
 |
| Founded in 1969 by Alfred
F. Lawrence as Alken Travel, a retail agency focusing on the Caribbean,
the company was restructured in 1974 in response to the demands of the
market. The wholesale operation was split from the retail arm and Alken
Tours came into being. |
 |
| Now, the dynamic second
generation management team, led by Patricia Lawrence-Haughton, is meeting
the challenges of the tech revolution and the demands of the changing marketplace
with new destinations and new products to suit the company's expanding
clientele. In the 1980s, Alken Tours expanded operations to Florida ito
better serve our market on the eastern seaboard. The development of the
company's corporate travel capabilities necessitated the establishment
of a base in the heart of New York City. |

 |
 |
| Patricia Lawrence-Haughton
oversees the marketing direction, technical development and quality control
of the entire company. In addition, she is the driving force behind the
long-range planning and strategic development that has made Alken Tours
one of the largest African American owned travel companies in the United
States. A 'hands-on' Chief Executive, she is accessible, determined, with
an eye to detail, and single-minded in her vision of Alken Tours as a prime
force in the travel markets of the 21st century. |
 |
| Continuing in the family
tradition, she is intent on expanding the company's base and its inventory
of attractive vacation products. She views her position as a daily challenge
and directs the company's business from her base at Alken Tours' Brooklyn
headquarters. |
 |
|
While her management style is
distinctly her own, she is firm in her belief that her father's vision
of offering the best value for the customer's dollar - the premise on which
the company was formed - will never fade. |
 |
| "To us, service is indeed
a way of life, and it is a pleasure to be part of one of the most rewarding
and challenging industries that links the world today", she holds. |
